WLHCA is pleased to announce that the Association has been awarded two micro-grants through the Invasive Species Centre Action Fund, with the combined grants totaling $7,000.
This funding will help support WLHCA’s continued commitment to addressing the spread of Eurasian water-milfoil in Wollaston Lake. Invasive species management requires ongoing attention, planning, monitoring, and community involvement, and this support will help strengthen the work already being done to protect the health and enjoyment of the lake.
Many thanks are extended to the Milfoil Action Committee and all of the volunteers whose time, effort, and dedication helped make this possible. Their continued commitment plays an important role in supporting lake stewardship and protecting Wollaston Lake for residents, cottagers, visitors, and future generations.
The Invasive Species Centre Action Fund supports collaborative projects led by community groups, Indigenous organizations, municipalities, conservation authorities, and other partners working to prevent, detect, control, and manage invasive species across Ontario. The Fund is supported by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and focuses on critical invasive species, including invasive plants, aquatic plants, and forest pests.
Ontario is one of the highest-risk provinces in Canada for the introduction and spread of invasive species. With limited resources available to address these threats, programs like the Invasive Species Centre Action Fund help direct support toward strategic, local projects that can make a meaningful difference.
The goals of the program align closely with WLHCA’s lake stewardship efforts, including helping to prevent new invasive species from becoming established, slowing the spread of existing invasive species, and reducing the harmful impacts they can have on Ontario’s lakes, landscapes, and ecosystems.
